IMO, AMD could not have survived in this business without the Nexgen acquisition. To claim that Nexgen's purchase was an abuse of fiduciary responsibility is patently absurd. Without it, there would not have been ANY future profits, let alone $723 million.

I totally disagree. Without the purchase of NexGen AMD could have sold that stock to raise cash. They wouldn't have had to sell off their headquarters, the PLD division, the COMMs business nor would they have had to kill the 29K. All were profitable and could have remained so if AMD have any R&D funds to throw their way. Instead AMD is once again back in familiar territory, red ink.

Re: "The purchase of Nexgen did NOT cost $810 million, it was purchased with stock, and AMD placed no value on the acquired property, physical or IP. "

The purchase price was $860 Million in AMD stock - at the time of the transaction - 82 Million shares.

You think that was free?

That is STILL WORTH nearly $800 Million - today !

One fourth of ALL AMD shares came from that transaction.

Subtract those out and AMD's EPS goes up quite a bit -if and when they ever have EARNINGS again.

I never claimed any such thing.

I brought this up because some clown claimed Intel spent a Billion Dollars on Merced - and I merely pointed out that AMD spent a near-equal amount in investing in its future chips - which includes the LATE LATE LATE Hamster.
