My opinion is that Africa and India were better off as British colonies than independent.

And most probably, India, in its current form, would not exist as the large sovereign state that it is.

The entire sub-continent consisted of various warlords and kingdoms before the advent of the British and the East India Company, who constantly were at war with one another.

So it's a "relative" statement for anyone to claim that India was be "better off". There is just no way of being able to make such a claim. But there is sufficient evidence that the British united the continent and created the system by which it was later able to govern over diverse cultures.
