RE: "...impose an enforced solution...that the entire middle east can accept..."

It must be nice to not be troubled by the need for logical consistency.

Mike, I just want to say that you are a good man, and I enjoy getting your inputs on all sort of things, including off topic subjects. I am glad you came here to America, we are a country made strong by all the fine people such as yourself who have come here from all over.

And regarding off topic, let me suggest what I think is an interesting point of view: AMAT is boring! By itself I mean. That is one reason I don't post that much info on AMAT. (Another is that others here are more knowledgeable than myself.) A great company, my largest holding, great management, a great future. But this "off-topic" stuff is what adds the spice to this thread. A diversity of topics/issues, that by the way, are more often than not related to the stock performance of AMAT going forward.

I would like to propose that the AMAT thread is, and should be, more than just a thread on AMAT. It is forum where an unusual collection of very smart and interesting people discuss all sorts of things, including of course AMAT. Sometimes we stray a bit from the win-win approach (which is what makes the world go around), but in general I think we are doing a good job here. This is a difficult time for Americans and for the world, and I think it is a positive thing that we have this communication here. I think "off-topic" should not be a problem. Maybe instead of suggesting that such posts be elsewhere, we should just request that they be preceded with "OT". Of course as to what is and is not OT is not so crystal clear. I think things are quite connected here in the year 2001, and I am glad to say that this trend is increasing, for I think it is a positive thing overall.

Just my two cents worth here on this Wednesday evening.

Best wishes to all the fine people who post here (Cary I am including you - be nice though),

John
