And note that (as stated) they were experimental parts from the submicron development FAB. I would guess that that's the limit of the process that's going into production at this time (or at least it was the limit when they were first experimenting with 193nm steppers in 1999). A production part would have to leave some margin compared to a development test, but they've also had time to improve the process, so I'd expect that AMD is looking at some gates around that size for the parts they're making wafer starts for now that will appear end of this quarter or early next quarter.

Also, 193nm resists are still a big questionmark. If I read you right, you're trying to imply that AMD is going to try 193nm and SOI for 0.13 micron. Coming from someone who knows at least a little bit about semiconductor fabrication... that's not one, but two hail mary's. You'll get lucky on one every now and again, but overall hail mary's are either intercepted or land on the ground as time expires...
