Sorry about that, Wanna. I never read that paragraph. I agree with his conclusion that AMD is selling the Athlon XP's too cheap.

Beamer - re: ": while all Athlon processors suffered from occasional instability in our tests, the Pentium 4 platform ran without a glitch. Reasons for this behaviour might not lie in the processor itself, but rather in the motherboard design and the chipset used"

Wow !!

This is BAD !!!

Instability confirmed by Tom Pabst.

Well..let's see..the Droids love his conclusions about AthWiper eXPloder performance..will they choose to believe only PART of his conclusions?

Wanna, re instability, some folks put up with it more than others, and won't make it a big factor in selecting platforms. I remember from my mainframe days, for example, that universities didn't even mind an occasional crash. They'd just reboot and go merrily on their way. Almost any kind of business, medium or large, however, would be all over you like a cheap suit with every outage. Might say something about Intel's keeping corporate biz to themselves? Even if AMD is as good as Intel in areas like stability, their reputation is not.

Expected flame sources: university people, if we have any; any and all AMD backers.

Beamer - Re: "Another factor is the stability and product quality of a system: while all Athlon processors suffered from occasional instability in our tests, the Pentium 4 platform ran without a glitch. "

Let me tell you - AND THE AMDroids - why this is REALLY BAD NEWS for AMD and the AThWiper.

Tom Pabst ran every benchmark under Windows XP FINAL !!!

Here is Microsoft's latest OS - designed from the Get Go for STABILITY .

And the Pentium 4 system DELIVERS STABILITY

And the AthWiper eXPloder keeps demonstrating INSTABILITY - even on Windows XP !!!

I wonder why Tom didn't add reboot time to his AthWIper scores - I have a feeling the Pentium 4 would REALLY OUTPERFORM the AthWiper eXPloder in EVERY TEST BY A HUMONGOUS MARGIN when the "time to reboot" was factored in !

"Another factor is the stability and product quality of a system: while all Athlon processors suffered from occasional instability in our tests, the Pentium 4 platform ran without a glitch. Reasons for this behaviour might not lie in the processor itself, but rather in the motherboard design and the chipset used. Future driver updates might not just improve performance but also stability of a platform. And of course, every user knows that the lightweight price tags on Athlon XP processors may have a downside compared to their more expensive Pentium 4 rivals."

That's the overclocker mentality for you. Idiocy. A system that suffers from 'instability' should be returned to sender; it's not reviewable. Price irrelevant!
