wbmw,

If you think that other "4th party" OEMs and dealers were left without this option, can you please include the links for proof?

3rd party motherboard suppliers, who made motherboards based on the broken 820/MTH and computers based on this combo were not part of the recall, and as a results, there are people out there with a broken Intel based systems who wish they bought a reliable system instead.

What persistent problem? Are i850 and i840 based motherboards experiencing problems on the PCI bus?

Yes.

Like I said, some manufacturers incorrectly keyed their 3.3V AGP cards so that they could fit in a 1.5V AGP slot. They failed to follow the spec, so their cards are at fault.

Didn't you say people want "reliability"? Intel is providing fingerpointing. Intel could have implemented a reliable system that handles the situation (which is not uncommon) gracefully. I would call that reliability. Self-destruction of a system is anything but reliability.

If the motherboard manufacturer did not follow the spec, it was their fault. Are you sure that this is what happened?

Wait, you said "Hint: one company issues a recall, while the other one says to ignore parts that cause instabilities, and posts a web page listing which parts are actually ok to use."

I responded to this flame-bait by saying that AMD actually points out potential instabilities, and steers customres in a direction where they will not encounter them.

Then why are you wasting time? Do you want to get the last word?

Sometimes I am get sucked into responding to flame-bait posts like the one I responed to, other times, I have more self control.

Joe

"ntel recalled the CC820 motherboards,"

I dunno, but in our office of 5 people, we have had 3 systems with the i820 and Rambus memory fail. Did Intel make the motherboards for the Dell OptiPlex GX200?

Wanna: Re: "there were some motherboards out there that did not meet AMD's requirements for 266 MHz FSB and PC2100 DDR, only 200 MHz. How is this "ignoring instabilities"?"

If the motherboard manufacturer did not follow the spec, it was their fault. Are you sure that this is what happened?

That was AMD's official line... Something about one of the components not being of the same high quality that AMD required... but how much truth there is to that, well, your guess is as good as mine. I wouldn't exactly put it past AMD (or Intel, or VIA, for that matter) to give it a "hey, it wasn't our fault" spin.
