jj,
so here we are a coupla old soldiers talking tactics and logistics at 5 am. LOL!!! but i luv it.

i think you just wrote a great post...at least the first sentence was great.

my logistics background was to buff the supply room floor once when i was a private. i will let you own that domain.

just to get on equal footing...i commanded 3 companies for a total of 42 months and a deployed operational A detachment for 36 months. i have over a decade of SF time and am currently a chapter president in the SF Association.

in late summer, i attended the last regimental supper at ft bragg to welcome the newest Q course officer grads to the teams. these captains were ready...anxious even...to deploy. and they are going to find the most highly trained and motivated NCO Corps in the world waiting to work with them.

the A teams think they can handle it, with tac air of course. they like to be inserted deep in enemy territory. they call it surrounding the enemy from the inside. they will happily and proficiently do whatever is asked including the impossible.

but, i am comfortable telling you that there is no way Special Forces and Special Operations Command together with a small rag tag army of ill-equipped and under-trained men are going to win this war with 50-100 tac air sorties and a few arc lights per day. the deployment of our larger combat units is inevitable and just a matter of time imo.

i had a good, proud chuckle as i read the overnight news that we are inserting an entire Special Forces company. that is six "A" Detachments of 12 men.....72 Green Berets to lead the fight against the entire opposition. i would luv to be one of them...yet i know that it will not be enough to get the job done. they and the larger units will deploy with little regard for bullet and bean resupply. they just know that you will get it to them.

and you will...right?
