The semis are no doubt getting a boost from the launch of Windows XP and the need to replace PC and not just upgrade the operating system...unlike what happened with Windows98 or WindowsME when a new PC was not really required for most. Intel's new chipsets will also stimulate the sector in the near term, especially for companies like Micron....also higher needs for memory.

My feeling is that investors are reading into the better business environment.
There is reason enough to at least go on the belief that the semis have hit the bottom in their business. Too many of these companies are making more positive comments now (tech conferences going on now) compared to the commentary in their earnings report in mid October. Don't think we have the effects of new handset launches factored in just yet..mostly PCs for now, imho.

I have been riding this sector higher for past couple of weeks and am not ready to sell just yet.
