Joe, Re: "Over the last year to 18 months, overall, annual number of units sold is down some 20 million. At the same time, AMD unit sales went up from around 6 million to 7.8 million. During this time, Intel claimed they held or gained or held share. Let me be blunt: Intel is lying."

Can you show me where Intel has claimed that they have gained or held market share from early 2000?

Joe, Re: Intel is lying.

That's nothing new for Intel. Did you listen to the Executive Webcast? Otellini claimed that a 2 GHz Pentium 4 is the fastest processor around -- even in many "old" applications. If you are nice you could call this a gross exaggeration otherwise it's just a blunt lie. (Edit: And yes, AMD is also lying sometimes (recall the K6 fiasco), but at least they give more concrete information, e.g. processor shipment numbers or ASPs.)
