Joe, Re: My post #61928. That post had multiple errors.

Re: < No way[AMD can sellout], unless AMD is experiencing a crash in yields. AMD has capacity to build some 7+ million Athlons from Dresden and a similar number of Durons from Austin.>

From the CC
Hector speaking "Fab 30 continues to ramp to full capacity in terms of wafer starts and we expect the fab to reach this goal by yearend as previously noted. The performance of this factory continues to be outstanding and we continue to sell out it's output."

Jerry Speaking "we are selling virtually everything we are making in fab 30. So, as we move to the new product, we are selling everything out, so any inventory builds are ramping up the new product,"

Total unit sales in 3Q was ~ 7.7 M. Of that # ~ 50% was Duron as per:

<Jerry> ... "you see the Duron is for the value space and the Athlon is for the performance space, it's about 50/50. Frankly, we are having a better time selling Athlons, because of the superior performance against anything out there and we expect that our growth in Athlons will probably exceed our growth in Durons in the current quarter."

Seems clear that in Q3 AMD sold ~ 3.8M Athlons.

Clear but wrong, IMO.

I think they sold more Athlons and less Durons.

And the question is 'How many wafers were started in late Q2 and early Q3' -- 'cause that's the determining factor on Q4 sales.(as well as the mix at the time)

It takes about a quarter from the wafer going in the door to the chips hitting the market.

Further, the move is afoot to transfer CPU production from Fab 25 to Fab 30.

<Jerry>...Our other major factory, fab 25, we are converting to a flash factory with leading edge technology and better balance with the opportunities...

I don't know how much is still coming out of Fab 25, but I'd expect a ramp-down of CPU production there is either in progress or coming soon. (My guess is in progress.)

Re: <Jerry said they took 72% of US Portable market.>

That is wrong. My error.

It should have read "Intel said they took 72% of the US Mobile retail market." That puts AMD at something north of 20% US Mobile Retail, IMO. A good number that's going to increase this Q.

I'm sorry about that. Just rushing and crossed synapses.
