Hi Amin, Long time....you still in CMGI ? <smile> I don't understand one thing about Islam and Moslems. Why does someone have to make a CALL...? Are Moslems so brain dead that they need someone to TELL them what to do ? Can't they tell right from wrong ? I mean I found this site fatwa-online.com pretty outrageous. Women are asking silly questions like "can i wear trousers ?" "can i refuse to have sex with my husband if he beats me up ?" "am i allowed to talk to my parents thru phone and letters if my husband forbids me to visit my parents ?" "can i have sex while i have my periods ?" I mean, come one.....these are not uneducated, illiterate village women. These are computer literate women. What makes them so dumb as to give up control on their lives, and needs ? And these are not even religious questions ! These are issues which need to be discussed and settled within a family...and that last one, with a doctor. Just because The Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) had an opinion 100's of years ago, doesn't mean that opinion makes absolute sense today....does it ? Coz see, He was never asked the first question co there were no trousers, and then there were no phones or mail delivery facility, and the clergy's answer is as good as your own interpretation. And about health related issues, well, the medical system had brought on a lot of changes, mortality rates changes, so the safeguards for health related issues, may be redundant now. And besides, we now have people called doctors who are more qualified to pass an informed opinion on those issues...... Why can't Moslems, like all other people, take the techings of Koran as religious guidelines rather than all encompassing rules which cannot, just cannot evolve with the need of the time...? I mean, how many Moslems still go to Hakeems and seek that hush hush silly treatment ? How many think riding a donkey or a camel is the allowed only mode of transport, as the Prophet only rode those ? Or why don't Moslems still live in caves, carry swords, use candles for light ? They don't do ay of this because on some conscious level ttheir mind has told them that they need to embrace the modern world. What prevents them from thinking the same thoughts for other parts of their lives ? How do they decide where to draw the line between what to follow and what not ? My question may sound offensive. It is not meant to be. All I ask is, Is the Moslem pubic dumb and deaf and senile ? If not, then why do they choose to be herded like sheep by these calls to jihad, these silly fatwas....? And of course I mean no disrespect to Islam. When my own reigion comes up with silly rules, I tend to react with much harsher words....
