Tickled pink?

Where is the "Arab Street"? Perhaps Arabs are smarter than you think and don't want to buy into Osama's "War of Annihilation" against the rest of the world?

Just a thought.

Only a handful of natives lived here when the French and British settlers arrived. The natives today intermarry to some extent with the later settlers and their life span is much longer than before. They have free schooling, free medical attention etc

I'll let those on this thread who have Native American blood answer this rosy picture of history. I might just say that the Zionists could make the same arguments. All of Palestine had fewer than 300,000 people in 1880 when the Zionists started coming to Palestine; about 200,000 of whom were Muslim. The Zionist immigration was agreed to by the Turks at first, then by British and their Arab allies who had the rule of Palestine after the fall of the Ottoman empire. The Partitions proposed in 1937 and 1947 gave to the Jews those areas that were already majority Jewish; it did not just hand over "Arab land". Unless you buy into bin Laden's argument's "once Arab land, always Arab land". Still mad about Spain like he is?

The wars have been caused Arab governments' refusal to accept a Jewish state even in those areas that the Jews had bought and settled. This refusal to accept Israel in any boundaries started the wars, and caused the refugee problem, which has been carefully nurtured by the Arabs, and all proposed settlements have been sabotaged. If it was just Israel vs the Palestinians, it could have been settled long ago.

state of Israel proved inviable without military and economic protection of the U.S.

The US only began to supply Israel with military aid during the Eisenhower administration when the Soviet Union began supplying the Arabs in earnest. Israel could survive without US aid; it has a modern economy. On the other hand, if we stopped giving $2 billion a year to Egypt, Egypt would be in real trouble.

Malcolm, so is this your version of the Final Solution. I disagree in the strongest possible way and find it hard to stay silent. I know FL wants to limit discussion of the ME per se, but I find your ideas on this issue to be unthinkable, extreme and naive. We need to find a way to live together, not apart from one another. I am a child of apart-hate, known in the US as Apartheid, I have some experience in this area. Tell me, was I your terrorist or your freedom fighter.

For starters, Jerusalem should be turned into an International City administered by some kind of world body. That city belongs to no-one, it belongs to everyone - although as an atheist I understand you may not feel the same way. It is the perfect location for a Grand Statement. Just another wacko idea, naive I guess, who on earth or in heaven would go for it.
