>So again I ask how do we make these kind of people understand that what they are doing is wrong....we can't, they have been taught from birth so they know they are right. There is only one way.<

Very very true

Re: Dealing with fanatics

I agree that fanatics cannot be reasoned with and must simply be taken out. The problem is how to do this without unnecessary collateral damage? I submit that even if one does not feel swayed by the moral argument, taking out entire populations to get a small number of embedded fanatics is not the quickest path to victory. It is far better, in both the short and the long run, to obtain the willing cooperation of local authorities in rooting out the real culprits. The Afghan campaign is a decapitation strike against Al Qaeda, but it will necessarily be followed by a global "mopping up" operation to root out cells wherever they may be found. We need brains more than brawn to accomplish this in the most effective way, but I am confident that civilization is equal to the challenge.

>"They are trained from birth that their only purpose in this life is to kill the Americans, according to the news these schools have been turning out killers for the last 30 years."

A few brave Imams in leadership roles are worth a million lives.

It's the key issue after occupation of Afghanistan:

Why are some Taleban warlords defecting - and under what conditions do the brainwashed kids change their ways?

Their conditioning involves absolute obedience to a leader. These leaders can say anything.

The key is to neutralize, convince or replace their leaders, who risk their own lives counseling non-violence.

Some brave leaders would save millions of miserable lives. We're starting to see some cracks in the dike already, in the UK. As the Afghani horrorshow continues there will no doubt be more, in spite of the propaganda to the contrary. In fact, the more hysterical the propaganda the weaker they are likely to be.
