I agree. The only way to really "win" this conflict is to create conditions in which moderates can displace the hardliners within their societies. This is difficult and it takes time, but that's basically how the Cold War was won so we know it's doable.

I did find it interesting that our local major market newspaper was critical of the media. It was critical of
sensitivity being shown about terrorists racial profiling and civil rights, bombs landing in the wrong places, and
so fourth. The article also pointed out that Taliban supporters should be encouraged to help out in
Afghanistan. After all, there is something to be said about having all your enemies in one place.

So if people in the print media see this, why don't the TV reporters? They are losing a lot of viewer respect.
