Where did the 100 year figure come from? Timeframe is certainly an important element but I don't think anyone believes that the U.S. has any interest in adopting a permanent siege mentality. But taking the time needed to do the job right is also part of the "American way" and that's what I believe we'll see. How long will it take? As long as necessary and no longer. In practical terms, my guess is longer than a year but less than a decade. I don't expect Afghanistan to be the center of attention for very long but this extends beyond Bin Laden and his immediate cohorts.
