By the way - please relate the George Carlin skit ypu mentioned - the only "sports" skit of his that I remember was:

Oh man, I don't remember all of it... I first heard it back in 1989 in college on a friend's recording... It's lengthy.

Some excerpts:

He starts out comparing baseball and football "baseball is very pastoral... 19th century... football is very technological... 20th century..."

"Baseball is played until someone wins... in fact the game may never end. Football is rigidly timed and will end even if you have to go to SUDDEN DEATH!"

"In baseball, you have a 7th inning stretch... In football, you have a TWO MINUTE WARNING."

"In football you get hit with a penalty... in baseball, you make an error.... whoops!"

His delivery is awesome as well... (of course as this is the much younger Carlan).
