LB - the problem with the terrorist laws and the resulting actions is that the terrorists have basically won in their effort to disrupt our way of life. And that is happening mainly because we and sepcially the people in power are going overboard in their cautiousness.

Any person who is planning on hijacking a plane is not going to make a ruckus at security and draw attention towards themselves. So the problem is mainly one of show of power and not of security. And since the security has the power, they want to show it. Its typical of what happens when you go thru immigration and customs in 3rd world countries. They make very little by way of income. So their manhood lies in the power they possess in letting you thru easily or making life miserable for you. If you pretend that they are lords and masters you ahve a food chance of getting theru easily. If you even hint at some superiority, you will be dead meat.

I am afraid that any rights we give up in this time of crisis have the potential of becoming permenant. And only events like the watergate incident will bring about a reversal.

I just wish there would be a permenant middle ground between security and civil rights so we dont go to extremes.
