misheldo,

I generally agree with the drift of your post. However, it is important that you become clear on the concept. What concept? The concept of the Great Game as espoused by Grate Brittany Spears in the 1920's. The Idear was to control the Middle East by inserting an irritant into the fray. One the one hand, you had the possibility of a Persian protectorate, then OTOH, you had a tortured terror (to the West) of an Ataturk resuscitating the Ottoman musulmen and finally you had the serious scythian scabbard of the Syrian to surmount. How to do it? Create a nation out of whole cloth. A complete fabrication of the minds on the Mersey. Why not make a nation, a notion, that has never ever existed before, for the sake giving the islamist a good wedgie? And thus was born..... Iraq.

Check out the history books. The good ones. Not the Encyclopedia Brittanica or Time-Life version. You'll discover as I have, just exactly why it is that when Powell and Schwartzkopf had the opportunity to take out the fakir of Baghdad, that they mercifully left him in place. To fester, and ooze and all those other things our demons do. Because, sir, he serves an important purpose. He's a wedgie. If he weren't there, someone in a really dangerous country would try to put the pieces together. That would be bad, yah? Not our cup of tea. Turkey, Iran and Syria all have the capability and the logistics to become regional superpowers. This is why we support Saddam Hussein. Interesting. Isn't it?

Salaams, Ray
