John, Intel to design Ovonics test chip with Azalea Microelectronics.

Message 16653849

What is the deal with endurance on this technology?

The test chip will be a 0.18-micron, 3-volt CMOS design. It is said to have
direct overwrite capability, so the cells do not have to be erased before they
are programmed. The chip can endure 1012 cycles, and can retain data
for 10 years at 120°C. The chip will be described next February at the
International Solid-State Circuits Conference in San Francisco.

I also see the test chip densities are at 4 Mbit.
By the time they have a practical prototype ready
for incorporation into consumer devices I suspect
that flash memory will be at several gigabit densities.
