I couldn't find any clear institutional identification on that site. On the other hand, the first external link on their "Linkshare" sidebar is the Washington Times. Which, when last heard from here, had the Chinese arming the Taliban, in line with the pre-9/11 conservative orthodoxy of demonizing China at every opportunity and somewhat in contrast with certain geographical limitations. Ok, some semi-official confirmation from directory.google.com :

A national weekly newsmagazine published in Washington, D.C. "As Newsweek is the sister newsweekly of the liberal Washington Post newspaper, Insight is the sister newsweekly of the conservative Washington Times newspaper."

The Moonies almost make me nostalgic for the Debkafiles.

Any thoughts on the credibility of this source? Who are they? What are their politics? What record do they have for accurate reporting?

John,
i cannot comment on the source as i do not know them personally.

i can tell you this...when the governor of california announced credible threats against the big suspension bridges i was 210% convinced it had to be a nuclear threat.

Insight Mag--the author of the piece, "High Alert-US Threatened with Nukes," seems to be Anthony Kimery, with respectable credentials (which makes the plausibility of Bin Laden's possessing a nuclear grade weapon even more frightening):

dso.com

"Anthony Kimery is an award-winning investigative journalist whose work focuses primarily on the security, intelligence, defense, and financial industries. Recipient of the Omnivision, Project Censored, Sierra Club, and Fund for Investigative Journalism awards, Mr. Kimery has extensive writing experience as a wire services reporter, government issues analyst, and mainstream magazine journalist. His reporting, including that for SOURCES, has been picked up news organizations that include USA Today and ABC News.

Kimery has edited or served as contributing editor for numerous publications related to the defense and financial industries. Kimery recently moved from Managing Editor to Editor-at-Large for Washington magazines Missiles, Munitions & Armor; Military Information Technology; Military Training Technology; and Military Medical Technology, all published by Kerrigan Media International.

Recent book contributions have included principal researcher for Eclipse, The Last Days of the CIA (William Morrow), and cites in Information Warfare: Chaos on the Electronic Superhighway (Thundermouth), and Inside Job: The Looting of America’s Savings and Loans (HarperPerennial).

Kimery's career began in the 1980s as staff reporter for the Hammell Newspaper Group and Oklahoma Business News. Investigative work by Kimery contributed to principal evidence brought in the Karen Silkwood trial. He went on to do investigative pieces for publisher Larry Flynt's The Rebel, subsequently becoming a Washington correspondent for the Pacific News Service.

In the early 1990s Kimery was Washington Bureau Chief for Money Laundering Alert, and in 1995 and 1996 a special contributor for Insight on the News, a weekly magazine published by the Washington Times for which he worked on investigative stories on the military and intelligence community. He also served as a Washington correspondent for Intelligence Newsletter, was an associate editor at American Banker Newsletters, and Washington Editor for Financial Planning and Traders magazines, the latter of which analyzes the securities industry.

Major publications featuring Kimery's pieces include The Washington Post, Wired, and Mother Jones. Since 1996, Kimery has been SOURCES' Managing Editor."
