Milo, Hypertransport is a great technology, but by AMD's own doing, it will never be more than a chip-to-chip interconnect for companies not interested in making their own proprietary interconnect. PCI-SIG, by AMD's own vote, will pursue 3GIO instead. Keep your fantasies of AMD taking over the world with Hypertransport in your own head. Considering the fact that as late as a few years ago AMD did not have "a hope and a prayer" of establishing their own bus interface or their own non-Intel compatible x86 PC chip (set) infrastructure, one could argue that they have made considerable progress if 40 other world class companies including Cisco, TI etc. have even adopted their standard for chip to chip interconnect. All the while increasing their market share from <10% to >22%. All the more impressive when you consider the fact that INTC's R&D budget itself is > AMD's revenues!! Oh! And at the same time they have produced a working (and fastest) x86 2P processor platform not to mention the world's fastest desktop processor- the main stay of their chief competitor "deep-pocked-Intel". I would say to the world conquest dreams- Today this, tomorrow the world- the big question is what to do after that? :) TG
