Paul, >AMD delays Sledgehammer to Q1 2003

If I were an AMD shareholder, I'd take that in a nanosecond. With AMD's obvious disregard for the importance of planning and project management, I expect it much later than that.

Paul, <AMD delays Sledgehammer to Q1 2003>

Mark my words, this will not be the last delay. I was surprised to see AMD continue to talk about Sledgehammer as if it were a sure thing, because this is what is going against it:

1) Only 1M of cache
2) Less performance than Gallatin (less cache and no multithreading)
3) Much less performance than Madison (much less cache, among other things)
4) No software support
5) No OEM design wins (they even admitted that)

But hey, if AMD can overcome all of these obstacles, more power to them. I expect that they won't.
