The reason I think this is that although Paul may not have the unilateral banning power of a dejure moderator he sets himself up as the moderator defacto by sitting back and waiting until he sees a post, or comment, or idea that he does not like and then all he needs to do is insert a few 'athwipe' references, foul language, personal jibes, repeat them until nerves are raw and soon the thread is flooded with petty responses, baiting, sparring and the original idea is lost in the maelstrom.

Ignoring Paul and all responses to him solves this problem. However it does still allow others to read his posts. That's what's too dangerous for this thread.

Epinephrine, Re..At that point he has effectively erradicated discourse on the issue he didn't like and generally lowered the value of the thread, not to mention that in so doing he most likely discouraged posts by many posters who were disgusted by the general atmosphere and so did not post the on topic opinions or ideas that they otherwise might have. This is thought control too. it is subtler but as Paul shows daily it is very effective.<<<<<<<

I agree completely. I have Paul on ignore. But that isn't the point. This is a moderated thread. Mani set it up. He set the rules. What good are rules if someone violates the rules all of the time, and refuses to go by the rules. Its a matter of principles. If Paul doesn't want to live by the rules, then he should take his act and go elsewhere. Sure I could put Paul on ignore, I have, but that isn't the point. The point is, there are rules, Paul refuses to abide by those rules, and we have asked him to leave. When Paul wants to grow up, and quite acting like a spoiled child, and agrees to abide by the rules, fine, then I will change my vote. Until then, his boorish, insensitive posts can go back to the Intel thread where they belong. The Intel backers voted strongly for him, which is fine with me; then keep him. The Intellabees should quite trying to lay a guilt trip upon us. It is Paul, himself who refused to abide by the rules. It is Paul alone who was banned, no one else, and I am sure that if Paul happens to come up with some genuine words of wisdom, one of the Intel gang , who post here regularily, will relay the thoughts of Paul to us in a manner which will be readable and understandable; and because I have Paul on ignore, I will eventually hear them also.
