Elmer, >ASIC fabs underperform a top rate fab like Intel's and (presumably) AMD's. They are intended to run many different products and can not be optimized for AMD. They get paid by the wafer and not binsplit.

That's interesting. What if yields are terrible?

Maybe AMD plans to outsource their "As Market Demands" Duron chips, so that Fab25 can be converted to Flash, and Fab30 can be devoted to Hammer.

Edit: Remember, VIA outsources their value C3 line, too. If Appoloosa die size gets down to the level of C3, shouldn't we expect similar costs?
