Tommaso:

I also had a Dauphine when I was a kid. We could pick the front end off the ground. Mine had a cracked block and I think I remember vacuum windshield wipers. They were bizarre. The Dauphine had one redeeming feature -- it was a great snowmobile.

Whenever it snowed, I would pick up a friend and we would go looking for snow-plows. First, we followed the plow. Then we pulled in front of the plow and led the way. Finally, we would take the Dauphine into unplowed parking lots. We would get it so deep in the snow that we could not open the doors. We stopped the Dauphine in the middle of the lot, stuffed it into first gear, and with chains on its rear wheels, we pulled right out of the lot.

I can't remember the gas mileage. However, with the cracked block, I used a lot of water.

Well I guess I'm glad I never had a Renault Dauphine ! Sounds awful. Although I do think the French and Italians are very good at wine and art...

Well, I gotta go... gotta get back to polishing my D'Lorean !
