<trained with GSG 9 in the Berchtesgaden area>

Then you worked together with the "top dogs." The GSG 9 was the only German elite unit for a long time. They aren't part of the army but the (border) police (Bundesgrenzschutz). In October 1977 they became famous when they successfully liberated all passengers of a hijacked German plane in Mogadishu/Somalia; 3 of the 4 RAF-related terrorists were shot.

<if you know or find out, i would be curious which unit the 100 German Special Forces are.>

The special forces offered for Enduring Freedom belong to the Kommando Spezialkräfte (Commando Special Forces, KSK). It is the army special forces unit which was created as late as 1996. The decision to set it up had come about when in April 1994 11 employees of the German broadcasting service "Deutsche Welle" had to be liberated by Belgian paratroopers in Kigali during the civil war in Ruanda.

The KSK is modeled after the GSG 9, SAS and Delta Force. They are located in Calw/Baden-Württemberg (Black Forest) and even have a Web home page:
sondereinheiten.de
There are rumors that some members are already present in or around Afghanistan but naturally it is impossible to find any specific information about it which can be referenced by a URL.

The U.S.A. have done so much for Germany that it's now time for us to stand by you. As I write this even the Green Party has published a recommendation for its parliament members in favor of military support. I hope that after the Taliban will have been defeated Afghanistan will be offered a similar reconstruction effort as Germany was lucky to experience after WW II.

Jochen
