OK, I wasn't thinking of it that way. In that case, a 5% reduction of tax RATE would be better than just 5% less taxes. I'm not sure if it would be as good as a 5% pay raise. We are not taxed on all our income, so the benefit would vary based on income and tax bracket. The best kind of tax reduction would be a Social Security contribution deduction. Then, EVERY WORKING person gets a TAX DEDUCTION, more money in their pocket and the lower income brackets who would benefit more than other income groups percentage wise of their total income are those people who are most likely to spend that money. Tax breaks for the rich just mean that they invest more and that doesn't really aid the economy as much, IMHO. Also, at least a social security reduction will make it more attractive for unemployed people to seek lower paying jobs than what they have been used to.
