dave, a question: 802.11a vs 802.11b&#133

I thought the most recent wireless protocol was 802.11b, not a. Any insight into the difference between the two? I seem to recall something about one sporting significantly more bandwidth than the other, but aside from that&#133 (and I'm not even sure which one would feature the higher bandwidth - just that WiFi, which is 802.11b, has around 11Mbps).

(as for Banias integration, I think this would be better suited for the South Bridge, which would still be required unless Intel is planning on a full SoC design - which is not the impression of I gotten thus far).

A note on BlueTooth: I completely agree with the Intel VP Maloney that BlueTooth will fail as the standard for "local wireless networks". Clearly, compatibility with Ethernet is a virtually insurmountable advantage for 802.11 - and when you combine that with the bandwidth deficiencies of BlueTooth, there can be only one winner.

As the article also mentions, BlueTooth would seem a good replacement for the current IR wireless standard. I would certainly love to have BlueTooth-enabled peripherals on my desk - keyboard, mouse and even printer could easily be handled with BlueTooth technology, saving users from much of the cable-clutter. I would assume video would still need to be transmitted over a cable, but I haven't actually looked at the bandwidth requirements.

"Banias integration could include 802.11a NIC"

And/or Bluetooth, and/or ZigBee...
