It's raining - at last! It's been a very dry autumn.

My brother-in-law comes to stay with us every Thanksgiving, and he's in my husband's bedroom. My mother slept over the last couple of nights, too, on a futon in the rec room. Wreck room, we should call it, because only the kids go down there most of the time, and it's always a mess.

It's nice having overnight visitors once in a while. I am the only one awake except for the cats. The house is full of sleeping people.

Chris and I have separate bedrooms because we both snore, and have disparate sleeping patterns. He's a night owl, and I am not. The older I get, the more disparity between Chris' and my sleeping patterns. I used to be an owl, stay up late and sleep late. It was common for me to stay up until 4 a.m. and sleep until noon on weekends. Now I wake up around 5 a.m. and can't get back to sleep. I wish I could say I am now a lark, that I wake up full of energy, but I don't. I just can't sleep.

In fact, I usually wake up at 4:44. It's the strangest thing. I keep the digital clock under the bed so I won't look at it when I wake up, because seeing 4:44 is so freaky it makes it hard for me to get back to sleep.

I don't think Chris really believes I wake up at 4:44. So a couple of nights ago when I woke up, I pulled the clock from underneath the bed, and sure enough, 4:44. So I woke him up and showed it to him. "See?"

But he never remembers things that happen when you wake him up in the middle of the night, and he did not remember it the next morning.
