Hi Jewel,

Thanks for the post on jihad. I'm still having trouble understanding, I think. Are you saying that, based on the basic beliefs of Islam WRT Allah, there cannot be a religious war? I'm having trouble wrapping my mind around that, as I'm used to the "God is on our side" fantasy and excuse for war, I guess.

Your statement about "Wait till you who's in the Northern Alliance" was really timely. I was out this afternoon and listening to NPR and there was a long discussion about the rather ragtag nature of the NA. It's gonna be a long time till there's peace in Afghanistan, IMO.

RE:It is a war about real estate, social dominances, and egos; as always.

I thought it had something to do with about 13,000 casualties of terror on U.S. soil and that we are trying to stop it from happening again. BTW, before everyone jumps all over my 13,000 figure, that includes the injured who are also casualties of the attack on the WTC and the Pentagon.
I see it more as a war for survival than a religious war. At least from the U.S. and its allies' perspective.
Osama and his buddies have declared a jihad, so for them it is a holy war.
