The Brits happen to have a far simpler tax system than the US does.

Yup, the gov't could provide lots more health care. For a cost. Which someone has to pay. Which means there's less money available for other things. Like all the expensive R&D which also improves medicine. CAT scans used to be almost outrageously expensive. Now they're much cheaper and much more common. And not because of Medicare.

Or do you think it's accidental that the computer and internet revolutions occurred in the US, not Britain?
And falling computer prices had a LOT to do with falling CAT scan prices (and falling MRI prices). As I'm sure you know, CAT is an acronym of "computed axial tomography".
