It is interesting to see how many proofs of identity we already have and laws that apply to them. Perhaps we should have the Government list EVERY single ID problem they have had for the last 20 years, and exactly HOW the law was broken, and HOW false identity acquired.

Of course, on the other hand....Maybe if we only had ONE card, look at all the State and National Departments and employees we could eliminate.... Just a few ID cards noted from the thread today...

Birth Certificate

Drivers License with Photo ID

Passport with Photo ID

Visa with Photo ID

Credit Cards with Photo ID

Bank Account with SS# and mother's maiden name required

Brokerage account with SS#

IRS account with SS# and heaven only knows what other info attached to it...

I-9 documentation if you work....your employer is required to have a copy of this, with cc of your proof you are who you say you are, and identity proof, with picture.

Gun Card with Photo ID

Voter ID.....each State should be checked to see how closely this ID is followed, and that the Voter Registrations in each State are entirely correct.

Well, maybe if we do have a National ID card, we could start with the non citizens and ALL visitors to the US. We need to prevent as much as possible another Sept 11th.

Quick math:
I believe we have aproximately 250 million people here, mostly citizens...

Perhaps there are 5-15 million legals, refugees, illegals, students, visitors to the US each year...there may be more, but certainly not as many people enter the country as present citizens

Seems as if it would be LOTS cheaper to start out with the folks we aren't certain of...especially in view of Sept 11th...
