niceguy, a few suggestions:

micronpc.com
-->
The award-winning Millennia® MAX XP2 features the powerful new AMD Athlon™ XP processor with QuantiSpeed* architecture, AMD chipset, and new DDR SDRAM memory technology. Home, home business, and small business users can have unrivaled desktop performance at an affordable price. Combining speed and innovation, the Millennia MAX XP2 harnesses the power of ultra-fast AMD Athlon processors and DDR SDRAM for maximized productivity in the most intensive applications. That means an unprecedented computing experience and incredible multimedia performance at a great value for Internet surfers, gamers, students, and parents.

Or you could build your own… one of the more reputable shops on the 'net is newegg.com

I'd recommend basing it on an ECS K7S5A motherboard (57 bucks!)

Niceguy,

How about the one that won the PC Magazine Editors' Choice Award Winner for Desktop: biz.yahoo.com

Go to: athome.compaq.com
and select Presario 8000Z.

Or MicronPC: micronpc.com

Joe

Dear niceguy:

Your post causes me a lot of concern -- Intel desktop systems have really flooded retail outlets. I first looked at Sams Club, which is now all Intel for desktops! Athlons/Durons were a majority of desktop systems not long ago. On the other hand, Athlon/Duron desktop replacement notebooks dominate there -- quite a turn around from 6 months ago.

Back to your question -- AMD does list a number of desktop vendors:

amd.com

and:

amd.com^3109,00.html

This Micron 1500+ system with WinXP is listed for $989:

micronpc.com

Happy hunting.
