Makes a little too much sense.

I was preaching something like this to INSP until my face turned blue. Of course, since I ran a large BBS for 10 years as a very successful commercial venture, I didn't know what the heck I was talking about. <g>

In my experience, if you charge $10 per month, $50 for 6 months, and $75 for a year, well over half of the membership will opt for the $10 per month. I had users who paid monthly for 5 years or more, when they could've gotten by so much more cheaply a year at a time. Which suited me just fine. The $10 per month folks were probably the difference between my making a profit and just breaking even.

My BBS experience was always easily dismissed because "This is much more complicated". Bull! It's the same friggin' thing. All that's changed is the underlying mechanism and the scale. Everything else still applies.

It's just people using screens to congregate.

Message boards are already a far bigger deal than a lot of people realize. There are TONS of them. Some of them that have nothing to do with the market are quite large, too. You name a specialty/hobby/occupation/fetish, and there's at least one sizable message board system out there dedicated to it.

If you can find it.

It seems obvious to me what the next killer app is.
