Perhaps. I've brought up the possibility with my wife that Smokey (our ever-playful 7-year old spaniel/retriever mix who answers only to "Puppy") thought the duck was one of his "woobies" (what we call his chew toys -- he knows the word well). If a new stray cat shows up (as they often do -- we're up to 13 now), he'll take off after them because he knows it's not one of "his" cats. These we call "self-propelled woobies".

If the duck is still out there, I'll show it to him and see if I get his "I done a bad thing" look.

My wife says he was outside at the time but she didn't hear him barking as he does when he chases strange cats.

But I've been suspecting it might've been him.
