As long as we have chauvinist and zealots who want to believe that "WE" are all great and some vague "THEM" out there are all bad, we will have more 9/11 tragedies in one form or another.

Group think and intolerance open the door to killing innocents to "advance" a cause. But you can't argue with close-minded zealots and those who live their lives full of ignorance and prejudice.

You can just expose the folly of their thinking as you did so well. It occurs to me that two months of reading SI posts on the terrorism crisis produces a vast gulf of understanding between those who have traveled and experienced the world and those who try to hide from it.

Brings to mind the fact that Slobodan Milosevic hardly ever traveled out of the Balkans before he became a fascist president himself (what we now call a "pre-defendant", LOL).

Zeev, actually the question of "pre-determination" versus "Free Will" as it relates to religion is a very curious and complex question, and is far beyond anything I want to get into. We agree that the evil done here was truly evil and fascist, and not the true act of a religious believer.

As for my ability to shelter my children, I treasure the freedom that I get in the United States, including the freedom to believe in God, and the freedom to raise my children as I see fit. I agree that my ability to shelter my children is extremely limited, and furthermore that as they get older, that ability will gradually fade away until it is gone completely. The world can be an ugly place, and there are bad people people who claim every sort of religious views. Nevertheless I don't believe that anyone who truly believes in god could have done such a thing as was done on September 11th, though they may claim to. I can't begin to express how appalled I was when the Huminist on the radio blamed all the evil in the country on people who believe in God.
