IMO faith in the people of this country is no more warranted than faith in the people of any other country. The people in this country merely have the good fortune to live in a huge country that has a hegemony in it's hemisphere.

When people are frightened and threatened, they will sell out their government and their neighbors- not necessarily in that order. We have never been through what European countries have been through. Our population has never really been tested, not since the countries founding. I hope we never will be. But to place faith in your fellow man is a bad bet, at least by historical precedent (unless you are lucky enough to be part of whatever portion of society ends up in the majority).

PS- I didn't respond to the Glover thing, because I've no idea why you're angry with him- and please, no need to explain. Artists will always have odd views. I enjoy art as art, and I don't worry about the views of the people who made it. Just as I don't worry, when I eat my burger from Carl's Junior, about the politics of Carl Karcher (which are probably to the right of yours). I could see not voting for Glover, should he run for office, but depriving yourself of entertainment, seems odd. Most artists are going to be liberal. You probably should avoid most movies, and all comedy clubs.
