E, if CH threatened to sue SI, Poet might consider him a jerk if she wants, but I fail understand how his actions rise to the level of terribly frightening.

I admit to being unclear about any SI policy of preventing individual posters from addressing each other - absent TOU violation.

Numerous posters, including Poet (and, perhaps, yourself) have asked me not to post to them. I have always refused. Some of those making the request have threatened to have SI intervene. All I can say is SI has never contacted me re this issue. I have been asked to tone it down a little on a few occasions -- most recently when I crowned X with a B.

I believe there is a fundamental issue in this. Unless a poster clearly stalks another and is unrelenting in unfounded criticism or gratuitous insult, every idea expressed is fair game -- especially on a thread like this one.

Every poster can find refuge in the "ignore" feature or by posting on restricted threads. I believe it is unreasonable to demand a personal sanctuary within a sometimes contentious public forum.
