Beamer - Re: "Didn't Intel launch the i810 UMA graphics chipset in 1999?"

Correctamundo.

Intel's implementation precedes the patent grant dates - but not necessarily the patent application dates.

Re: "generating screen pixels in raster order... can you think of any other graphics card vendor that might be using something similar?"

I guess Out Of Order execution hasn't found a home in raster displays yet !

wanna,

One point to consider, patents (put simply) tell a story of a problem in the prior technology, or art. Another analogy of a patent is that it is a method, or process, about how to "get" from point A to point B. Of course, there are infinite ways from point A to point B and a patent can cover some and, at times, most, but rarely all ways.

It will be interesting to see how this turns out. Most company's utilize their patent portfolios to force others to cross license, etc.

Perhaps there is a patent that Broadcom wants? Perhaps Broadcom wants Intel to pay royalties? Who knows...

This will take years to resolve.
