Hi Ray, Sorry to butt in here, but the U.S. Government never ran surpluses in the 1990's, only if you count Social Security taxes, which I don't, nor would any accountant. What company or business counts employee contributions to a retirement plan as revenues? None, only the U.S. Government, and they should all be thrown in jail for doing so, IMHO. We also know what's going to happen to Social Security anyway, so ever more money down the drain. Oh, and we also know that the Federal employees, including our elected 'Public Servants', never have to pay into Social Security, and get their own sweetheart deal, so what do they care if it fails? I agree that our debt burden hurts our country, but do you think the people at D.C. State University care? Doubtful, too busy living like college kids again to worry about a nation. >>the nation intelligently scaled back it's military procurement<< It has been widely reported that the US military was overextended in recent years, with active missions in distant locations such as Iraq, Bosnia, Kosova, Haiti, East Timor, etc. In the current Afghan campaign there have already been shortages of smart munitions. Also there were only a few Predator drones and many have already crashed. The entire defense structure should get a thorough review in light of the current terrorism threat.

During the Clinton era, a time of peace FL...i gotta say just a word in response. Ray, is that a joke... where where you? America was attacked 5 times in those years by various foreign powers. America and SF took combat fatalities on every continent. the only peace was the young piece in the oval office bathroom. uw
