I won't quibble with a few percentages here or there...but WHY??

Why would they be against outlawing abortion in that circumstance?

If that's what you mean then there are different answers for different people. Some don't consider the fetus to be a human life at all. Some don't consider it important in any way, or they consider it important only as something the mother might want, or they consider it important but less then human. Others think there are two people involved. Of that group a very small percentage might argue that either for the child's life over that of the mother, or for some judicial or other formal procedure to determine who will live. But most would say that it should not be a legal requirement for the mother to give up her life. There are quite a few reasons for to think this even if you think two human lives are involved. One would be an argument from self defense. You can kill someone who would otherwise kill you. Others might make the decision for purely emotional reasons, they can talk with or otherwise interact with the woman, they can not interact with the fetus and so may be less likely to have any emotional connection to it. Others might look at it as a matter of being more certain that the woman really is a human person. In an earlier conversation we talked about how you can't be 100% certain of anything (expect perhaps your own existence if you buy the "I think therefore I am" argument), but if you accept certain normal assumptions it is almost 100% certain that the woman is a human being, and some committed pro-life people might say that it is more like 99% that the fetus is a human being. I could probably come up with a number of other reasons, but to accurately describe why people feel the way they do I would have to conduct a well designed poll, which I don't have the resources to do.
