Correct, I'm not an average buyer, however, this lack of need to upgrade is a qualitative difference
between the current time and, say, ten years ago. The marketing has remained constant.

Marketing works to drive car sales, because an older car is so obviously old. But you can't tell what
vintage of CPU you're running just by looking at the screen. When you use your 1999 PC, there's
nothing to remind you that you really should upgrade. And if cash is a little tight, there's lots of
reason to make do with what you have...
