Here is the SI profile one of those WTC guys

He was a great guy, usually spot wrt the market, and shared his knowledge. Only ever spoke to him on S.I. but he was also well known for his humanity.

There will be an empty chair at the Thanksgiving table for him I'm sure, plus all those other innocent victims.

I miss his chat and humor.

Tough luck for them. There are a lot more people in Afghanistan than Northern Alliance warlords. There's no particular reason they should be top dog. They've seen what the USA and allies' military methods did to the Taliban so I doubt they want to be too militaristic in their approach to establishing civilisation in Afghanistan.

Why don't they want foreign peace keepers? I think the reason is that it would restrict their ability to commit crimes.

Afghanistan has lots of neighbours that have meddled in it's internal affairs for hundreds of years. In addition to that,... it is surrounded by four countries (if you include Russia) that posses nuclear weapons.

I would not play the heavy handed cop with these guys, the situation may rapidly deteriorate into something much worse.

Yes, they have seen the Wests military wonders, I think some trust and enlightenment (help with votes for women for example) would have better results overall.

You put one soldier down on the ground, he/she needs a supply base. That attracts one bandit "freedom fighter" over from Pakistan. The lack of supplies has kept these guys away. The rest is simple math, it could be a zero sum game apart from lots of casualties. Some of my past posts allude to this point.
