Dear HG,
Firstly, I didn't mean to imply that you are young, only that I am old relatively to my own youth. So now that we have established that we are over 30 (or have we?), we should stick together cause those other folks don't trust us. <gg>

I find your points very valid and agree with you in terms of philosophy about how to make life more meaningful and beautiful. However, some of your suggestions relate to philosophy and philanthropy which may have underlying spiritual influences but do not explain the greater truths in life and afterlife (as we know it)which religion addresses. That is not to say that they are all mutually exclusive. I certainly applaud your attitude towards helping the less fortunate but i would argue that each and every individual would find one more rewarding than the other (spiritual pursuits over philanthropic pursuits.)

I think that there is a very need in our world, society, cultures to have organized religion. I see it as organized education. I'm sure that as computer programmers, many are self taught but you can't deny the usefulness of 'formal' organized education. Without some sort of 'organization', it would be difficult to maintain some sort of direction, continuity or consistency. I don't think we should discount other forms of religion and I do wish that we would all take a more 'live and let live' approach to what people believe in.

cheers,
hkl
