The difference between now and the 87 bear is that the current bear follows a parabolic increase in the markets. My understanding is that such parabolic increases have always been followed by long term secular bear markets. Maybe it will be different this time. Certainly having an economy that is primarily services is unprecedented and its behavior and consequences to the stock market hard to predict long term.

Still I would not bet against the secular bear. LTBH now is like salmon swimming upstream against the tide of market history, i.e. bear food.
