As if any further proof was needed of the step-child status or imminent demise of SI, I offer the following for your consideration:

Try searching for yourself in PeopleSearch. Then try it using your original screen name. My bet is that the search won't find you under (Bob) Zumbrunnen but will if you enter the original name (or one you used up until, say, June of last year). What should show is not the original name but (Bob) Zumbrunnen.

Try the same thing with threads that you know have completely changed their names in recent months. A search using any part of the current name will reveal nothing while a search using any part of the former name will show the thread (using its current name).

I noticed this a couple of weeks ago when I tried to bookmark a couple of people who had not posted recently and was unable to find them until I remembered and entered their old names.

For an example of the thread name mystery, enter the word "boxing" in a search of Subject Names and "Beanie Babies Collectors Corner" will be one of the names on the list (Until two months ago, it was known as "The Boxing Ring"). Try looking that thread up under any of its current names and the search will be fruitless.

Thus, I must conclude the answer to the question "Is no one minding the store?" is an emphatic "No!"

(Please forgive the intrusion if this was previously noted.)
