Someone on SI recently said that "Without a pause the 2nd bomb was dropped on Nagasaki." That is a total lie. Hiroshima was August 5th, Nagasaki August 9th. The day after Hiroshima, an armada of bombers dropped leaflets all over Japan (at risk to themselves), urging the populace to evacuate their cities and to pressure the Emperor to accept unconditional surrender. The latter was an unrealistic expectation of what the people could do, but we were trying, and we filled those in-between days with behind-the-scenes efforts to get them to surrender. It was made clear then that the Emperor could remain on the throne, which was a vital sticking point with the Japanese.

Ther's a lot of revisionism going on these days, in a lame and bogus attempt to equate the A-bombs with the WTC.
