BUSH ASKING ARAB NATIONS TO PITCH IN FOR PEACE PROCESS November 26, 2001

The Jerusalem Post reports: “As senior American mediators arrive today in Israel to try to end 15 months of Israeli-Palestinian fighting, President George W. Bush is asking Arab nations to also do their part to help restore calm and resuscitate the peace process.

Following Secretary of State Colin Powell's speech that outlined an American vision of peace in the Middle East, Bush sent letters last week to five key Arab leaders urging them to do all they could to persuade ‘the Palestinian leadership to take actions to end violence and get the peace process back on track,’ a senior administration official said over the weekend.

The letters - which were sent to Jordan's King Abdullah II, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah, Morocco's King Mohammed VI, and Tunisia's President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali - also asked them to ‘express their support for peace and a two-state solution,’ the official said…”
