NW:

The cute, very bright new chief economist, Marci, on CNBC reported on the "recession" this morning.
She said that the recession had begun 8 months ago in March and that the average length of a recession since 1940 is 11 months. The longest recession since 1940 was 16 months.
She said that this self-appointed panel of 6 academics is viewed as having the last word on whether we are, are not, or have been in a recession and that although they are an independent entity and not affiliated with the govt., that the govt. also views their assessment as the final word.
Interestingly she said that it is possible that we currently are out of or coming out of the recession now but that we won't know for some time. The last time there was a recession the same committee didn't proclaim that recession was over until 12 months after the recession had ended.
This is just another step in the final process of ending the recession and starting another up trend.
I view the announcement as good news.
