(NYSE: EDS) and Identix Inc. (Nasdaq: IDNX) have joined forces to provide increased security services to U.S. airports. EDS said Monday it has named Los Gatos, Calif.-based Identix to be the preferred provider of fingerprint biometric technology to U.S. airports. Identix already provides 11 of the largest U.S. airports with fingerprint biometric technology, used to conduct and process rapid background checks on employees and applicants. Terms of the deal weren't disclosed. EDS became the leading provider of information technology services to the airline industry after its acquisition of the outsourcing business of Fort Worth-based Sabre Holdings Corp. (NYSE: TSG) in March. The company's services include departure control systems, security profiling systems, baggage management and tracking, air traffic management and smart card and airport operation databases. It also recently released a comprehensive suite of digital security products for airlines and airports. EDS said its relationship with Identix grew from an aviation security task force formed by EDS following the Sept. 11 attacks. EDS and other companies, including Identix, are jointly delivering presentations and far-reaching security recommendations to the U.S. government and airports. Many of the recommendations call for quickly introducing to airports existing security technologies already in use in other high-volume, scalable environments, EDS said.
